The Trashtag Challenge Has People Picking Up Trash All Over The World

Trashtag challenge started from viral Facebook post.

Facebook user Byron Román ignited the trend with a viral post. The challenge involves taking pictures of area before and after it was cleaned.

Soon people felt inspired to participate in the #TrashTag challenge, and shared pictures of themselves collecting blights of trash from outdoor spaces.

Here are some highlights:

The #trashtag hashtag and concept actually date back to a 2015 contest called “The Trashtag Project” sponsored by UCO (or Utility, Comfort, and Originality, an outdoor gear company) where people could post photos of themselves cleaning up litter for a chance to win free outdoor gear.
