Jennifer Aniston beat Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Guinness World Record for getting one million followers in the fastest amount of time and temporarily broke the platform.
A spokesperson for Instagram confirmed that Aniston’s wildly successful Instagram debut did break the app a little. “We are aware that some people were having issues following Jen’s profile,” a spokesperson said. “We are thrilled to have this ‘Friend’ as part of the Instagram community.”

Aniston also went viral for the comment she made clarifying her Friends character Rachel Green’s present-day relationship status with Ross Geller. Former Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe asked Aniston if Ross and Rachel were still together. Aniston replied, “Well we’re on a break,” and it took off. Over 31,000 people liked Aniston’s comment, and it has been picked up by E!, People, and more outlets.
Aniston appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night, where she described herself as “the most reluctant person to ever join Instagram.” Why did she do it then, Kimmel asked. “I don’t know,” she responded, before adding, “What you resist persists so what the hey?”
She also confirmed that before she had an official Instagram, she had a secret account. “It was a stalker account, yes,” she said. “But I was thinking about doing this [starting a real one].”
